Supreme Court rejects divorce petition founded on insufficient grounds

The UK Supreme Court has unanimously refused to grant Tini Owens' divorce petition, issued in May 2015, but contested by her husband.

The court held that she had not proved that the marriage had broken down irretrievably or that her husband had behaved in such a way that she could not reasonably be expected to live with him, as required by s.1(2)(b) of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 (Owens v Owens 2018 UKSC 41).
