Property Taxation : End of stamp duty 'slab' system has cost over half a billion


The recent changes to stamp duty land tax (SDLT) in England and Wales, which abolished the system of charging a single rate of SDLT on the whole purchase price, have cost HM Treasury GBP657 million in reduced revenues. Buyers in London and south-west England benefitted most, saving an average of GBP4,600-4,800 per purchase since the December 2014 reform.
